Manager, Jon McDonald made six changes to the side which was defeated last Saturday by Scarborough Athletic with Chris McDonald, Dan Turner, Callum Ross, Nic Bollado, Rory Edwards and Wil Shaw all coming into the starting eleven.
Dunston had the games first effort with Ross seeing his header from close-range saved by Vilar Robinson. Just six minutes later, Ross again had another headed chance however this time his header narrowly dropped wide of the Avro goal.
On the twenty-fourth minute mark, the deadlock was broken when Holland-Wilkinson found space inside the area slotted the ball past Marshall to give the Northern Premier League side the lead.
Avro kept on pushing for a second and almost found themselves through on goal but were denied by the linesman’s flag. Smith then seen his free-kick from distance go over the bar as Avro took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Immediately from kick-off, Avro almost doubled their lead as a shot by Salt was narrowly sent wide of Marshall’s goal. Just three minutes later, Holland-Wilkinson grabbed his second of the afternoon tapping home from close range to give the Vulcans a two goal lead.
The game then saw many yellow cards shown shortly after Avro’s second goal with Tom Devitt being shown a yellow for pushing an Avro player and Cheick Thiam and Dan Turner being booked for challenges on opposing players.
Devitt then had a chance on 77 minutes but his header was saved by Vilar Robinson from close-range before Thiam was shown his second yellow of the afternoon following a late challenge on Turner.
Dunston piled the pressure on late on looking to find a route back into the game but the Avro defence stood firm and limited the Fed to shots on goal. Heading into injury time, Sam Davison was shown a straight red for a wild swipe on Fin Neary.
The Avro defence continued to stand firm heading deep into injury time with JJ O’Donnell and Chris McDonald both seeing long-range efforts saved comfortably by Vilar Robinson which secured a 2-0 win and FA Trophy progression for the Vulcans.
