Thank you, Scrappy.

Thank you, Scrappy.

Callum Pattison9 Jun - 19:44

After 11 years, 265 appearances, and 74 goals, Liam Thear has made the difficult decision to depart the club.

After signing from Gateshead in June 2015, Scrappy has gone on to become a club legend at the UTS Stadium, admired by everyone. Scrappy will go down as one of the club's greatest ever players.

After battling multiple serious knee injuries, Scrappy has shown everyone what he is about over his 11-year tenure at the club. Resilience, hard-work, and above all, a fantastic human being. He is 8th in the club's goal scoring charts since 1991 and has contributed to some memorable moments at the club for over a decade.

A proper Dunston player and an individual who epitomises everything that this football club represents. After making the difficult decision to step away, Liam has shared some words:

"It’s hard to really put into words in a few sentences but all I want to say is thank you to absolutely everyone involved at the club.

"Never in a million years when I signed as a young 18-year-old kid did I think I’d still be here almost 12 years later. Think it goes without saying that it’s one of the most respected non-league clubs for a reason and it’s easy to see why, but you don’t fully understand how much more it is until you are a part of it.

"Throughout my time here from top to bottom; the chairmen, the managers, the coaching staff, the physios, all of the committee, the bar staff, the media lads, the legends that work in the canteen, all the fans and all my teammates over the years I honestly couldn’t have asked for anything more from anyone and although there’s been ups and downs, I’ve loved every second of it.

"The right time has come to move on but I will be forever grateful for the last 12 years. Up the UTS."

Dunston manager Jon McDonald has added some words of his own:

"Scrappy has been outstanding for the football club. He’s a top person and a very talented footballer, a maverick. He’s highly thought of my me, all of the staff and his team mates. We had a really good conversation about his future in football.

"My only regret is that I never got the chance to see the best of him as manager, after he sustained the knee injury during my first pre season after taking on the role.

Scrappy goes with our best wishes and we wish him nothing but the best."

From everyone at the club, we wish Liam the very best of luck for the future.

Thank you for everything, Scrappy.
